End of Year Examinations

The Grade 4 to 7 students continue writing their final examinations until 26 November. Each student has received their examination timetable indicating the day each subject is written. Please assist your child in preparing for these examinations by ensuring that sufficient time is set aside for studying at home and that your child has enough sleep and healthy nutrition, which is especially important for adequate brain function. A normal school day (08:00 – 14:00) applies to these students during the examination period.

Ice Cream Sales

There shall be an ice cream sale (dairy and non-dairy ice-cream sticks) on Thursday and Friday, 25 and 26 November at the Dey Street Campus for all the concert performers. Ice creams are R10 each.

Pearls of Paradise

Thank you to parents who have made their costume payments and organized the costume requirements. An appeal is made to stick to the deadlines for handing in payment as well as completed costumes.

Tickets for parents, grandparents, extended family and friends, to attend the stage production are available at R50 per ticket from the school office. Tickets are selling quickly and we thank everyone for their tremendous support thus far.

Rehearsals during the school morning shall increase over the next few days. Please ensure that your child has sufficient food, snacks and juice during the next few weeks as the opportunity to purchase from the Tuck Shop cannot be guaranteed. This applies to the Pre-R to Grade 8 performers.

A sincere word of thanks to all the teachers who have sacrificed many hours of free time to prepare costumes and props for the stage production.

End of Term

The 2010 academic school year draws to a close on Friday 10 December. Children and senior students are expected to attend school everyday until this date.

Senior Subject Choice Meetings

Thank you to all the parents of IGCSE and A-Level students who have made appointments to see Teacher Jo regarding subject choices for the next academic cycle. These meetings are invaluable and highly important so parents who have not already made appointments are urged to do so as soon as possible.

End of Year Examinations

Entrepreneur’s Day

We congratulate the Grade 1 class on their successful and enjoyable Entrepreneur’s sale on Friday 12 November at the Junior Campus (Dey Street). Thank you to the parents of these children for their assistance.

Registration renewal packs and new information details for 2011 have been issued. Please complete the necessary documentation and return to the school office as soon as possible.

Newspapers and other requirements

Thank you to all who brought newspaper, bottle tops and cardboard boxes, we appreciate your helpfulness. These items are well stocked up now so therefore, we do not require anymore.

Welcome

We extend a warm welcome to the many new families who have recently joined Courtney House and wish them a happy time with us.

Senior Subject Choice Forms

Information pertaining to the subject choices for the next academic year for the Upper Secondary Phase students (IGCSE and A-Level) went out during last week. Please ensure that these forms are completed and returned to the school office and that meetings to discuss subject choices have been scheduled.

Students in these classes MAY NOT wear make-up, nail varnish, lip-gloss and an excessive amount of accessories. Chewing gum and bubblegum is also not permitted. Please ensure that your child abides by these rules.

Junior Swimming

Please remember to pack in your child’s swimming costume and towel for swimming on

Tuesdays (Grade 2 and 3) and Wednesdays (Pre-R, R and Grade 1)

Healthy Snacks

A friendly reminder that Courtney House follows a healthy eating policy and therefore, school lunch must consist of healthy and nutritious snacks and light meals. Fizzy cold drinks, sweets and chocolates are not permitted, particularly in the Junior and Secondary Phases.

Congratulations

We congratulate our Junior Soccer Team on their superb victory over the North American School on Tuesday, 26 October. We are proud of you and commend you on your amazing performance. Well done, Coach Biso!

Farewell

We say a sad farewell to Teacher Ellen at the end of this term, who has resigned so as to relocate to Natal to live nearer to her extended family. We extend best wishes for her future happiness and success and thank her for her wonderful efforts.

The Courtney House Theatrical Production of 2010 shall be staged at the West End Theatre on the evening of 8 December from 19:00 until approximately 21:30.

Full stage and dress rehearsals are scheduled for the 6th and 7th December during the school morning and until 16:00 on both afternoons. Please keep these dates open as it is vital that performers are available for these rehearsals. Children shall be transported to and from the theatre on rehearsal days.

Tickets for “Pearls of Paradise” are now on sale at R50 per ticket. Tickets are only available from MichelĂ©-Ange at the school office. Please purchase your tickets early as seats are reserved and follow a ‘first come – first serve’ basis. Tickets are selling at an alarming rate, so purchase your tickets soon to avoid disappointment.

“Pearls of Paradise” DVDs of the performance can be pre-ordered and paid for at the school office when you purchase your tickets. These DVDs are R120 per copy and make a memorable keep-sake of your child’s performance on stage.
