International Earth Hour Event

Thank you to all children, students and families who attended the International Day Event on Saturday.

A special word of thanks to the families from the following countries who presented wonderful displays to showcase their country of origin and heritage: South Africa; Malaysia; Romania; Egypt; Canada; Poland; Kenya; Iran; Sri-Lanka; Angola; Spain; Ethiopia; Nigeria; Sudan; Cameroon; Norway and Lesotho.

Teachers and staff of Courtney House are thanked for their excellent efforts in making the event such a huge success.

Sport Facility

We are proud to announce that Courtney House shall be using the Sport Facilities at St John Vianney Seminary (Main Street) for all Physical Education Lessons. These facilities include a Soccer Field, Basketball Court, Tennis Court and Squash Court. Class PE lessons as well as afternoon coaching shall now take place at this new venue.

World Water Day

The Pre-R to Grade 8 children celebrated International Water Day, 22 March, by engaging in a variety of environmental activities directed towards water conservation. These included making rain shakers; water filters; rain gauges and presentations on the water cycle. Thank you to Teachers Amy and Catalina for their insightful contributions to making the water awareness programme so valuable.

Entrepreneur’s Day

The Grade 3 class will hold their Entrepreneur’s Day on Tuesday 12 April at the Junior Campus. Parents are urged to assist their children with the preparation thereof. For further information, please contact Teacher Heidi.

Term End

The first term draws to a close for all children and students who are not writing International Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level examinations in May-June on Friday 15 April at normal school time. These students return to school on 10 May.

Students writing May-June examinations will have school as usual until Thursday 21 April. These students return to school on 3 May.

Human Rights Day

There is no school on Monday 21 March as it is Human Rights Day, a public holiday in South Africa.

Thank you to Teachers Refilwe and Sandra for their amazing effort in arranging the activities which the Pre-R to Checkpoint students participated in, on Friday, to commemorate Human Rights Day.

Terrific News

We are proud to announce that, as of this week, Courtney House shall be using the Sport Facilities at St John Vianney Seminary (Main Street) for all Physical Education Lessons. The event takes place at the Senior Campus (202 Main Street) from 9:00 till 12:30. We encourage all families with children in Pre-R to Grade 8 to attend the function. The entrance fee is R20 per family, payable at the school office during the week. There will be food items, ice cream and cold drinks on sale.

On the day of the event, children and students are required to wear a green item of clothing or accessory in support of environmental concerns and to wear a hat which they’ve designed at home using recyclable material. The individuals sporting the most outrageous, most creative and most innovative hats will be awarded a prize.

Golf Championship

We are thrilled to announce that Ronan Sweeney (IGCSE) has been selected to participate in the Under 14 Boys’ South African Golf Championship during April this year. Ronan is currently ranked 4^th for his age group for Gauteng North. We wish him all the best for the tournament and congratulate him on making it through to the final round.

Sad Farewell

We are sad to inform you that our Spanish Teacher, Catalina, will be leaving Courtney House at the end of March. She has been offered an opportunity to study a Masters Degree, and therefore, shall be returning to Columbia to attend the University there. We wish Catalina much success with her studies and thank her for her wonderful contributions.

The Junior Adventure Camp (Grade 4, 5 and 6) at Bushveld Adventures takes place from 11 – 15 April. Please ensure that camp forms and payments are submitted to the school office be 23 March. No late confirmations may be accepted.

Human Rights Day

The students will tour the Eastern Cape including Port Elizabeth, Plettenberg Bay, Jeffrey’s Bay, Knysna, Oudsthoorn and Kimberley. Tour information packs with consent forms were handed out to the students. Indemnity forms and the first payment is due by 17 May.

Families who would like to showcase posters, flags, artefacts and other interesting items of cultural importance applicable to their country or organisation are required to include their details on a form which was handed out. Pearls of Paradise DVDs

There are still a number of DVDs from last year’s stage production available. Those children who have not collected or purchased their DVDs are encouraged to do so before the end of next week as we shall be returning surplus stock. DVDs are priced at R120 per copy and includes the entire three-act show.

Collection of students

An urgent request is made that arrangements are made for children and students to be collected from school on time. Please note that aftercare supervision is available only until 17:00 each day. Many students, particularly those in the senior phase, are being collected between 17:30 and 18:00. We cannot expect the aftercare teachers to work overtime, so these students are supervised by the management of the school.
