Parent Evenings

Thank you to those parents who attended the parent question-and-answer evenings last week. Items raised were noted and shall be discussed and dealt with by management in due course.

Needlework Extra Mural

Please note that there shall be no needlework extra mural activity until further notice as Teacher Jana is ill with mumps and a secondary virus. We wish Teacher Jana (Grade 1) a speedy recovery.

Security Gates

Children and senior students may be dropped off at the Senior Campus (202 Main Str) from 07:00. There is teacher supervision at this campus. The Junior Campus (Dey Str) may only allow entry from 07:30 for safety and security purposes. Younger children who need to get from the Senior to the Junior Campus before 07:30 are walked across by a teacher on duty.

Please use the Giovanetti Street entrance for drop off and afternoon pick-up at the Senior Campus.

The Giovanetti Street entrance gate shall remain open until 08:15 every morning with Shirley, the aftercare teacher on duty at this gate. Only once this gate has been shut, after 08:15, shall it be necessary to enter from the Main Street side.

Please ensure that children arrive for school before 08:00. Any students who enter the classroom after 08:15 are marked absent on the school register.

Foreign Language Packs

Audio material for your child’s foreign language (French; Spanish; Afrikaans) must be purchased this year to supplement their theoretical language lessons. Envelopes with this information were handed out at the end of last year. Payments and order forms are due by the end of January.

Scrapbooks

Each student from Grade 1 to Grade 7 is required to have an A4 SCRAPBOOK (blank blotting paper pages). Please ensure that your child has this additional item. They are available from CNA.

Art Project

Students in Pre-R to Grade 7 started their Box Self Portraits (Joseph Cornell) last week. They are reminded to bring their magazines and interesting ‘odds-and-ends’ such as photos, small toys, scrapbooking material, fabric etc so that they can continue working on this project this week.

School Times

Pre-R to Grade 2 08:00 – 13:30

Grade 3 to Grade 8 08:00 – 14:00

IGCSE & A-Level 08:00 – 14:00; 15:15 or 16:15 (depending on afternoon classes)

Although, there is an aftercare facility until 17:00 every day, please try to collect children as close to the times they complete classes or extra murals as possible.

Pre-R - Grade 3 Tuesday 24 January 18:00

Grade 4 – 6 Wednesday 25 January 18:00

Grade 7 – 8 Thursday 26 January 18:00

All three meetings shall take place at the Senior Campus (202 Main Street) and are a valuable opportunity for parents, more specifically for new parents to familiarise themselves with the school procedures.

Adri from Ruler Clothing, the uniform supplier shall be available on 24 and 25 January at the parent evenings for those parents who would like to purchase or collect uniform items. To place orders for uniforms, please contact Adri on 078 459 8824 or rulerclothing@gmail.com

Important letters highlighting the co-ordinator portfolios for Demi, Jo and Cara for this year were sent out on Friday. Please consult this information so as to have clarity on who to contact for various concerns.

Extra Murals

Extra mural activities shall commence this week. Schedules indicating the types of activities presented were handed out to students on Friday. Please return completed forms and payment to the school office as soon as possible.

New Year Welcoming

We welcome all our families, old and new, to a wonderful and exciting 2012 and trust that we shall have a productive and successful start to the new term.

Sympathies and Condolences

We are saddened to extend condolences to Julia, Christina, Sandra and Michele-Ange who lost close relatives over the holiday season.

Sad News

It was heart-breaking to receive news of the tragic passing away of the young Danai Barbee, from our Grade 7 class of 2011. We extend sincere sympathy to the Barbee family and are mourning the loss of an insightful, well-mannered and inspiring student who shall be sorely missed.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Teacher Martha on her recent engagement. We wish her and her future husband, Steve, well as they make wedding preparations.

Swimming lessons for the junior children shall commence from the first week as follows:

• Pre-R; R and Grade 1 Wednesday mornings
• Grade 2 and 3 Thursday mornings

Girls are to wear plain navy blue full swimsuits (one piece) and boys are to wear plain navy blue swim shorts. Please ensure that your child has a swim towel.
